JANUARY 2008 SPECIAL

Happy New Year!

Dear Customer,
As we begin this New Year of 2008, we are very EXCITED about the New Items and the New Color we have to offer. We are also very pleased with the good news about Fenton Art Glass.
The most important news we want to pass on to you is that Fenton Art Glass will restructure and their plans are to remain open. Operations and production will be scaled back and their dealer base will be cut back. Orders will be taken in a time window and production will be based on orders. This is great news for the handmade glass industry. I don't want to see any U.S. Company go out of business, especially in the handmade glass industry. We also see that L.E. Smith is making some new items, which is also great news. Hopefully they can hang in there too! This is GREAT NEWS for an industry that once had factories that numbered in hundreds. Now those factories can be counted on one hand.
Now for some of the new products we received right before the holidays. We couldn't wait to tell you about these new items!
First of all, a new color made it's way to our shelves. This was a color Harold Bennett of Guernsey Glass had made in the 70's. My Dad went crazy over this color, when he first saw it back in the 70's. As a kid, I remember stocking the shelves in our basement with eyecups many times over. I think my dad bought and sold a few thousand of these eyecups at that time. We kept a few samples and went to Tim at Mosser Glass and asked for this color. He said "he believed he had the formula." A few days later, the samples were in our hands. The color is an opaque color, which you can't see through it. It is yellow with tips of orange.  Originally, we called it Pumpkin, but thought we need to come up with a better name. One color that comes to mind is a color Degenhart and Boyd Glass made, which they called Bittersweet. We're still not sure what we're going to call it. So we're going to ask for your help. For those of you who purchase a piece of this unusual color, send us your thoughts. We will collect them and put them in a future newsletter. Then we will ask everyone again to vote on the name they think fits this color best. The winner will receive a $25.00 gift certificate towards your next purchase. Good Luck! !
A new item we received is the Inverted Fan & Feather Four Footed Covered Candy Dish in Vaseline Opalescent. This was one of our best sellers over the years when Summit Art Glass made it. The original maker was Northwood. This is a newer mould from an original piece. This is one of the moulds we purchased from Summit last year.
Another item that made its way to our shelves is actually four pieces from 1 mould. They are hand-finished vases in what is known as the 3 -n- 1 pattern, in different shapes. Three of the pieces made were made in quantities less than 60 pieces. If you have a Vaseline Glass Collector, this is something they are going to want to get their hands on. These are Great Collectors Pieces!
As you all know, new Fenton Animals arrived in December. Seven Burmese Animals out of nine have already been sold out. Three Chameleon Green Animals of nine have already sold out. If you want to buy one thing from this special, I suggest you buy one of the Chameleon Green Dragons. This is one that won't last! I'll bet on ebay, in a year, it will be worth a small fortune. Mark my words!
If you are interested in any Fenton Handpainted Animals, you are in luck. We just got word from an old Westmoreland Glass Artist named Ernie Brown who said he would be willing to handpaint for us. You will see his work on 6 animals inside. We think you will be well pleased with these handpainted animals. These will be limited, so we must limit two to a customer.
Last, but not least, if you like miniatures, you will have to have the Miniature Moon & Star Water Set in the pumpkin color! ! Only 80 sets were made in the plain color and 80 sets in the carnival color. They are so rare, that for us to be fair, we must limit 2 sets of each color to a customer. Wait until you see it. It is on the ½ sheet of this flyer! ! The color is out of this world! !
As you can see, these are the reasons why we are so excited about the handmade glass industry. We look forward to hearing from you in 2008.
                Thanks
                The Rosso's
